How does my pet get heartworms?

🦟 A mosquito infected with heartworms bites a dog.
🦟 Larvae enter the dogs bloodstream and migrate to the heart and lungs. 😳

It is that time of year …Lily season! The entire Lily plant can be toxic; the stem, leaves, flowers, pollen and even the water in the vase. Cats especially love to jump on counter tops to investigate this beautiful plant.

If ingested, pets will most likely show gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain. The toxins can cause threatening kidney damage. See the list below of the different types of Lillies.

Catching exposures quickly is critical. If your pet has been exposed to or ingested a Lily plant please contact your Veterinarian immediately to discuss.
